The HMRF is managed by a Research Council of the Food and Health Bureau (which make the funding decisions), advised by Expert Advisory Panels (which make recommendations to the Council on thematic priorities, research foci, funding opportunities and funding allocation), a Grant Review Board (which review and assess applications and recommend projects for funding) and a Referee Panel (which assess the scientific merit of proposals).

The HMRF invites research grant proposals from individual researchers in response to “open call” invitations which will be announced via the HMRF website. It also supports specific programmes identified on the advice of the Expert Advisory Panels. Research fellowships will be awarded to eligible candidates covering a range of research areas and specialties and geared toward a variety of levels (e.g. PhD students, post-doctoral fellows, clinical research fellows, etc.) based on the Expert Advisory Panels’ advice.

Opening and closing of applications are normally in July and mid November.  and Applicants will be informed of the results within 6-7 months of the closing date.

Successful applicants have to submit interim, final and dissemination reports.
